Cognizant System Engineer

Sigma Science Inc. (SSI) is actively seeking Cognizant System Engineers (mechanical, civil/structural, electrical, and fire protection) as part of our team supporting the Department of Energy (DOE) environmental management mission in Multiple Locations including but not limited to Albuquerque and Los Alamos, NM.  Other sites are also Oak Ridge, TN and Amarillo, TX.

Sigma Science Inc., has an established history of contributing to the success of its customer’s mission.  Do you thrive on the satisfaction of meeting expectations through technical excellence, integrity and quality?  Sigma Science Inc. has 20 years of experience providing nuclear safety, operations, maintenance, engineering, environmental management, project management and administrative support services for federal and commercial clients.  SSI is currently looking for mechanical, civil/structural, electrical, and fire protection engineers for near-term opportunities supporting legacy waste management and environmental remediation at multiple locations throughout the U.S.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the duties of a Cognizant System Engineer at nuclear waste management and/or environmental remediation sites. These duties include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Configuration management support
  • Modification definition and control
  • Implementation of the authorization basis
  • Technical baseline maintenance
  • Monitoring, tracking, and trending of major systems
  • Definition of maintenance requirements
  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Preparation of detailed corrective maintenance instructions for complex or critical operations
  • Engineered equivalency analysis
  • Field implementation of the Conduct of Engineering (COE) Program

In addition to the duties outlined above, the successful candidate may be required to lead Vital Safety System assessments, perform system health reporting reviews, and participate in operational readiness activities relating to their assigned systems.

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated expert technical experience in design engineering or system engineering for nuclear or industrial facility operations
  • Expert knowledge of engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of technology aided engineering tools to conventional and non-conventional facility and operations-based engineering problems
  • Sound knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods
  • Expert knowledge of engineering maintenance techniques and construction methodologies
  • Demonstrated expert experience in engineering including design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical baseline maintenance
  • Demonstrated expert experience working with industry codes and standards
  • Proficiency with personal computers

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of DOE complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to System Engineering and Vital Safety Systems, such as DOE O 420.1C and DOE STD-1073

Education and Experience:

  • Position requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science and at least 10 years of related experience.
